The Boom Lock is a hoisting tool for lifting offshore wind turbine components. During the development of the Boom Lock, a set of simulation models was combined into what is now called a digital twin. In this presentation Christian Kleijn will show how this digital twin emerged and how it was key to the successful implementation and acceptance of the Boom Lock. The story illustrates the amount of effort that is required to create digital twins and how these twins can be economically applied during the life-cycle of complex machines.
Christian Kleijn founded Controllab after graduation as a mechatronics engineer at the University of Twente in 1995. He has a wide experience in the development and testing of complex control systems. During the last years he has lead Controllab into the research and development of digital twins in the high tech and offshore engineering.
