Cross-discipline collaboration using behavioural digital twins for fast full system simulation

In this presentation, James Hui will discuss a real life use case that the benefit from creating a behavioural digital twin, which allows different stakeholders using a fast full system simulation as the platform to conduct test, experiment and verify design decisions a year before entering its implementation phase. He also shares the lesson learnt and what is the right mind-set to embrace this new design approach.

Engineering is a team sport, an active and close collaboration is essentials for the success of any programme. Modern embedded system are becoming more software intensive, the complexity of such system is further compounded by safety and security requirements together with budget pressure from the business level. Accurate communication with up-to-date information helps cross-discipline teams to remove mistakes seeded early in the requirement/design stage, and maximises the chances for successful programme delivery on time and on budget.

James Hui is an engineering specialist for the simulation and agile practices at Wind River. Hui addresses software simulation practices with a focus on model-based design, test driven development, digital twins, agile/lean and DevOps. He has 20 years of experience in software development across a wide range of domains including industrial automation, machine learning, predictive maintenance, avionics and defence. He leverages his background as a developer, tester, scrum master, product owner, software manager and agile coach to better understand business and technology, and the need for active and close collaboration.
